ETHCO Dates Majiga CDSS Students for Career Guidance
Students of Majiga Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Nkhotakota on Friday had a rare opportunity when senior staff members of Ethanol Company Limited (ETHCO) led by their Chief Executive Officer (CEO) took time off their duty to inspire, encourage and motivate them on their education and future career choices.

Speaking with Malawi News Agency (Mana) soon after her presentation, ETHCO Temporally Lab Analyst, Esther Mbuna said the company had decided to date the students’ in order to encourage, motivate and inspire them to aim and dream bigger.
She said the career guidance talk is very important because the students need someone to guide them into making good decisions for their future.
“From the time we are born to when we die we need someone to guide us especially in the academic sector. We need direction from someone who has already achieved because by being at the top you know the struggle and what it takes to get there,” she said.
Mbuna, who graduated with a distinction in Chemistry at the University of Malawi, Chancellor College and was due to leave the country for further studies in the United States of America, said to be at the top, one needs to be focused and work hard, and especially advised girls not to be distracted.
“Times have changed. Today we have girls and women in top positions and they just do not get there by chance. They really worked hard and these girls need to do the same,” She said.
One of the students at the school, Jacob Mwale, thanked Ethanol Company Limited for the program saying it will go a long way in inspiring them to believe in themselves.
“Low self esteem has for long been affecting me, but after listening to the encouraging remarks, I now know that many people who are on top today passed through what I am also experiencing. I now know that I can also make it in life,” he said.
Another student, Patience Msiska, said through the career guaidance talk, she has learned that by being focused and working hard, she can also attain her dream.
Head teacher for the school, Rodgers Banda hailed the initiative by ETHCO, observing that it was an eye opener for the students in as far as the choice of their future careers was concerned.
“We expect to see a positive change in the way that they will approach the subjects and life in general than was the case before” he said
